
Sofie Brouwers
Biography
Prof. Sofie Brouwers is a cardiologist with a special interest in arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, rehabilitation and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. After completing her studies in Medicine at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, she was awarded a PhD fellowship from the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO), through which she performed research on arterial hypertension at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Boston University. Upon completing her PhD, she joined the University Hospital in Zürich to pursue her Cardiology training.
Currently, she works as a cardiologist and rehabilitation specialist at the Cardiovascular center of the AZORG Clinic Aalst, and at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel where she is a part-time professor and teaches Clinical Pharmacology and Arterial Hypertension to Medical and Pharmacy students. She is a task force member of the 2024 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Guidelines for the management of elevated blood pressure and hypertension.
